Orange Belgium has announced its intention to begin phasing out its 3G networks next January. At the same time, the process of decommissioning these networks will occur region by region and should be completed in 2025.
According to the schedule published on the operator’s website, the municipality of Wetteren, located in East Flanders, will be the first to terminate the service. Further, the shutdown process will cover Namur (February), coastal areas and the Haute-Fagnes region (April), Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven (May) and Mons (June).
The shutdown schedule for other regions will be presented later. Orange says the 3G shutdown will have a limited impact on its customers, most of which use the 4G network for both voice (using VoLTE) and data. At the same time, Orange Belgium’s 2G network will operate until at least 2028.
