The Pentagon will pay for Starlink services for Ukraine

SpaceX received a contract to supply Starlink terminals to Ukraine.

Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX, received a contract from the US Department of Defense to supply Starlink terminals and services to Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to the Pentagon.

Funds for the purchase of Starlink terminals will be allocated from the reserve created by the US Congress to ensure the security of Ukraine.

In December 2022, the Pentagon announced the provision of satellite communications “terminals and services” for Ukraine, but did not specify that SpaceX would receive the contract. The US Department of Defense emphasizes that it continues to cooperate with a number of global partners to ensure reliable communication links in Ukraine.

Starlink terminals proved to be indispensable for ensuring the communication of the Ukrainian military on the front line, as well as for the restoration of networks. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already received 42 thousand such terminals. Currently, Ukraine is actively working on the implementation of the Internet from Starlink, including in civil infrastructure, in particular in trains .
