“Vodafone Ukraine” completed the purchase of the “Freenet” provider

Mobile communications operator “Vodafone Ukraine” (PJSC “VF Ukraine”, formerly “MTS-Ukraine”, Kyiv) has completed the acquisition of the company “Freenet”, which provides services of fixed access to the Internet under the “O3” brand.

This is stated in the company’s message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

It is noted that the purchase of the company is part of the strategy of “Vodafone Ukraine” to develop convergent services and tariffs.

“Our belief is that the fixed line business of Vodafone Ukraine should develop to serve more subscribers, providing them with high-speed Internet services, including on the basis of modern GPON (gigabit optical network) technology,” said the general director of Vodafone Ukraine Olga Ustinova.

As reported by Ukrainian News Agency, in May the Antimonopoly Committee allowed VF Ukraine PJSC to acquire a stake in the authorized capital of the telecommunications provider Freenet (trademark O3, Kyiv), which would provide the buyer with control over the provider.

The subscriber base of “Freenet” exceeds 163,000 subscribers.

The company provides broadband Internet access services under the O3 brand in the city of Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhya, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kyiv, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernihiv regions.

On December 3, 2019, the company Bakcell (Azerbaijan) completed the transaction of the purchase of the telecommunications company “MTS” of the mobile operator “Vodafone Ukraine” for $734 million.

Bakcell is part of the NEQSOL Holding group of companies, the founder of which is the Azerbaijani Nasib Hasanov.
