Viasat announces the change of ownership. The company is waiting for its channels to be included in the list of those allowed for broadcasting

Viasat World announces the change of ownership of the Ukrainian distributor of Viasat Ukraine LLC. Now 100% of the company belongs to the British company Viasat World Limited. The head of the sales department of Viasat Ukraine, Tetyana Kremen, told Detektor Media about this.

The company also informed about these changes of providers in the letter of the CEO of the company, Benjamin Grukok.

It states that Viasat World is a British company owned by senior management in the United Kingdom.

On April 5, the company informed the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting about these changes.

” As a result, there is no valid reason to limit the distribution of television services owned by Viasat World ( Viasat World Channels ). The National Council has already received our original applications to add Viasat’s global channels as programs of a foreign broadcaster to the List ,” the letter says.

The company says that together with the applications, it also submitted confirmation of ownership changes, which indicate the withdrawal from the Russian market.

The head of Viasat World is convinced that the regulator must now confirm that the company’s channels can resume broadcasting on the platforms. We are talking about Epic Drama, Viasat Kino, Viasat Kino Action, Viasat Kino Comedy, Viasat Kino World, Viasat Explore, Viasat History, Viasat Nature.

” Any further delay is unwarranted and will only adversely affect your own business operations and harm your own customers ,” the letter said.

Benjamin Grucock emphasized once again that the ultimate beneficiaries of Viasat World are EU and UK citizens. And after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the company terminated all its previous commercial agreements and does not provide any services to the Russian Federation and does not receive income from it: ” And none of the Viasat World channels are broadcast on this territory .”

In confirmation of ownership changes, the company provided an extract from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.

“Detektor Media” has requested a comment from the National Council and is waiting for a response.

According to the sources of Detektor Media, some providers have already returned Viasat channels to their packages.

It will be recalled that on March 23, the media regulator, the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting,  called on providers to stop broadcasting Viasat  World Limited, as the company has connections with the aggressor state. This connection was revealed by a property study, which the National Council reported on at its meeting. However, the issue itself was not brought up for consideration. The regulator says that it did not receive all the necessary information regarding corporate and operational changes from the official Ukrainian distributor of Viasat Ukraine LLC. Accordingly, Viasat broadcasters were not included in the list of channels allowed for retransmission.

Viasat World, the rights holder of the mentioned channels  , informed  its partners that it does not have any corporate or commercial ties with Russia. The company says it informed the National Council about these changes.

On March 31, when the Law “On Media” entered into force, major providers began to disconnect Viasat World channels.
