The average speed of mobile Internet in Ukraine should be at least 2 Mbit/s – Fedorov

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is preparing amendments to the legislation to enable the state to check the speed of mobile Internet. This will allow Ukrainians to receive quality services from mobile operators.

This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for Innovations, Development of Education, Science and Technologies – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in  Telegram , Ukrinform reports.

Speed is one of the indicators that operators use as a competitive advantage However, there is no such indicator in the new Law on Electronic Communications. Because of this, in the future, the state will not be able to check whether the download speed is really sufficient everywhere. We are currently preparing changes to the legislation. This will allow the state to control the speed,” he said.

Fedorov emphasized that the average mobile Internet speed in Ukraine should be at least 2 Mbit/s. This is minimally enough to call colleagues from a smartphone on the go, post videos on Instagram and share files without Wi-Fi.

“This speed should be in all settlements and on roads where there is mobile communication. In cities, the actual indicator is much higher, but in some villages – on the contrary, due to the smaller number of base stations,” the head of the Ministry of Statistics summarized.

As reported, the joint application of mobile operators of Ukraine and the EU has been extended for another 6 months with the possibility of further extension. This will allow Ukrainians to continue communicating with loved ones in the EU at affordable rates of the European free roaming zone.
