Slovenian operator A1 Slovenija to shut down 3G network in June

A1 Slovenija, a division of A1 Telekom Austria Group, plans to stop using 3G mobile networks. The shutdown of third generation networks is scheduled for June 30 this year. This was announced by the company.

“The phasing out of 3G technology is an integral part of the sustainable development strategy and the development of the fifth generation mobile network,” A1 Slovenija said in a statement.

A1 Slovenija has built a modern and reliable mobile communications network based on 4G/LTE and 5G technologies. The network in the 3G standard is used only by some old devices, which are mainly intended for data transmission, the company explained.

The largest telecommunications operator in Slovenia – Telekom Slovenije – refused to use 3G technology in the summer of 2022.

Currently, the 5G network covers about 70% of the population of Slovenia, and by the end of 2025, 98% of the country’s citizens will have access to it.
