The USA and Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the Telecommunications Industry. In particular, it is about rebuilding the telecommunications infrastructure, improving the quality of service and coverage, as well as introducing mobile communications of the 5G generation.
The document was signed by the head of the Federal Communications Commission of the USA, Jessica Rosenworcel, and the representative of the National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the field of communication and information technology, Lilia Mallon, during the World Congress of mobile technologies (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona.
The memorandum formalizes the countries’ partnership for “mutually beneficial exchange of ideas in the field of communication regulation policy to promote the development of advanced communications in both countries.” “Partners will facilitate the exchange of information, experience and capacity building, as well as initiatives, pilot solutions or projects,” the US federal commission reports.
“Nothing could be clearer than that the United States is a friend and partner for a strong, secure, independent and prosperous Ukraine. This includes telecommunications policy, and we are committed to supporting and listening to our friends and partners in Kyiv,” Rosenworsel said. , says the press release of the US government.
Mallon noted that this partnership “will have a positive impact on the development of the telecommunications sector in our countries, as well as taking into account the need to restore the damaged telecommunications infrastructure of Ukraine.”
In mid-February, it became known that USAID is allocating $60 million to strengthen Ukraine’s cyber security. “This is an important step for all digital products to work stably and for you to be able to use convenient government services. The support will also help strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure objects from cyberattacks,” said Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Radio Liberty, Fedorov also said that at least five countries have already announced their intention to create their own digital applications based on the Ukrainian Diya application. And on January 19, the Ministry of Digital announced that, in cooperation with the government of Estonia, the mRiik application, created on the basis of “Dia”, was launched for the citizens of this country.
